Past Events & Photos

The purpose of this section is to show a variety of event ideas and photos from the participants of Purple Light Nights®around the world. Please send me photos of what you did in your city or community and share your ideas with other readers.

Purple Light Nights® is designed to honor and remember victims of domestic violence. How you accomplished that purpose using purple lights may be different in every community. Some cities sell the purple lights as a fundraiser where other agencies purchase them and give them away. Some cities do individual purple lights while others choose to light their street trees.

I have placed the photos and ideas in categories by location to make it easier for you to connect with and partner with other groups in your area.

Entertainment will be provided by Kentwood High School drama students who will perform several short plays on domestic and dating violence while high school musicians provide background music. The Lions Club of Covington will hand out free purple balloons as people arrive. We are excited to have a survivor share her personal story and elected officials will be represented at this event as well.

The Covington Days Parade 2010

Members from the Covington DVTF and residents from the community participated in the Covington Days Parade for the 4th year. This year we had a local group of vintage car owners join us with their purple 51 Chevy and purple 49 Lincoln along with a Model T, orange & purple 39 Ford coupe, and motorcycle rider. The cars were decorated with purple balloons and the PLN logo sign on the side. Leading the group was our banner holders while other members passed out candy to the kids and heart-shaped key rings with DV Crisis Line to the adults. The crowd loved the vintage cars, they were a hit! The mayor announced the judge’s choice awards later that day and we received the City Pride award trophy for our city spirit!! Most importantly we brought greater awareness of DV to our community in a very fun way.
