Saturday, October 1st 2011 - 2nd Annual Purple Tree Lighting Kick-off - a community event.  Featuring an outdoor stage with entertainment by local band "Train Wreck"; the Kentwood High School Players will perform dramatic scenes; and featured speaker is Melanie Hope who will share her personal story and message of hope.  Local service clubs (Kiwanis of the Foothills, Covington Rotary, and Covington Lions Club) will be giving out free purple ribbon cookies, refreshments, and purple glow sticks.  The event will culminate with lighting of 2000 purple lights on the downtown center tree.  Admission is free for all ages.
